Welcome To Bubbles and Boo
My Favorite Things

What a fun, but exhausting weekend! We had a great egg hunt at our house on Saturday and then lunch with some friends today. Very nice- but, somehow also very tiring!

The hunt was great - all the kids got little wee bunnies from the pattern by Hillary Lang over at Wee Wonderfuls. I also sent one off to my nephew in Colorado.

I realized at the last minute that I forgot to get baskets or bags for egg collection, so I made some quick little sacks at the last minute.  They ended up being a great sack for the bunnies.

New dress for Ellie

Spring is such a great time for sewing!

I recently bought Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross. It is such a great book! I am excited to try so many things in it. But, I decided to start with a simple dress for Ellie. I made the Smocked Sundress.

Ellie loves the dress- which is always great. I think she'd like a little more "twirl," but it works.

And, it was the first time I ever sewed with elastic thread- and, I am hooked! It is the coolest thing ever. I am already trying to thing up new things to do with it. I am thinking about a skirt with a smocked waist. I wish I had known about it when I was pregnant- it would be awesome for those times when a stretchy waistband is called for! I love learning new things!

Next I am either going to try Lucy's Kimono for a new baby in the family (my cousin's) or the Kimono Dress and Obi Sash for me.  I just bought some gorgeous dark chocolatey brown linen at Britex at lunch today.

Skirts, skirts, skirts

Recently, my 4-year old has decided that she will only wear skirts- preferably ones that are "twirly." Luckily, Oliver + s has a great, quick skirt "recipe" on their blog. It is called the Lazy Days skirt. It is a simple, elastic waist skirt that uses a whole width of fabric and has an ingenious ribbon hem.

We love the skirt - so far, we have made four of them. Below are two of them.

I highly recommend the pattern to everyone!  I ended up adding thick pink rick rack to the bottom of the green apple skirt- it adds a lot (just no picture yet).

Hello and welcome!

Hi! Welcome to my blog. I am hoping that I will use this space to share a little about what I do in my spare time. I love to make stuff and I will try to share it here. So, we'll see where this goes.

After saying that, I don't really have a "made" project today.

But, we started our garden today after a little break. When we were pulling up the copious amounts of weeds, we found these "volunteer" carrots! What a nice surprise!

We planted peas, three kinds of carrots, and some bull's blood beets. Once we have cleared out the back bed, we'll get some beans and tomatoes going. This is when I really love living in California!
